The Nelson
House Flames will represent Manitoba at the Western Canadian
Junior "B" Hockey Championships in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
The Flames defeated the North Winnipeg Satelites 5-3 on home
ice Friday night to win the best of five series three-games-to-none.
Kyle McLaughlin broke what was a 2-2 tie after one with a goal
in the final minute of the second period; but Dale Slobodian
tied it up early in the third with a powerplay goal.
Chris Olson scored the game winner at 14:18, and then Sheldon
Frank scored into an empty net in the last minute of play. Frankie
Dicks and Rick Stabback had first period goals for the Flames.
Chris Bialowas and Trevor Stokes also scored for North Winnipeg,
who held a 28-26 edge in shots on goal. For the third straight
game in the series, Mike Malchuk and Mike Johnson were the goaltenders
of record.
The Western Canadians start next Thursday at Assiniboia.
