The Nelson
House Flames are leaving the Keystone Cup Junior "B"
Western Canadian Hockey Championship without a win, but they
did manage to pick up a single point in their final round robin
game.
The Flames began the day 0-and-3, and lost a crushing 9-1 decision
at the hands of the Sicamous Eagles of British Columbia. Aaron
Hareuther and Kevin Veideman each scored twice for the winners.
Hareuther got MVP honors; and Scott Bowles wasn't a busy man
between the pipes as he was called on to make only 14-saves.
Sheldon Frank had the lone goal for the Flames. Mike Malchuk
was peppered with 43-shots in the NCN cage.
The Flames put a lid on their tournament by knotting the Aguasabon
River Rats of Northern Ontario 5-5. Frankie Dicks had a pair
of goals and also was chosen as the game MVP. Marlin Rain also
scored two and Frank added one. Phil Poulin got the call in
net and made 24-saves. The Flames were outscored 37-9 over the
course of their five games.
Earlier in the day, the River Rats were drilled 12-2 by the
Saskatoon Chiefs; while the Spruce Grove Regals clinched a spot
in Sunday's gold medal game after a 4-1 victory over the Assiniboia
Southern Rebels.
Saturday's late game has Sicamous playing Saskatoon. The Eagles
need to win to have a chance at playing the Regals for gold.
Here are the updated standings:
Spruce Grove (4-0-and-1)
Assiniboia (3-1-and-1)
Sicamous (2-1-and-1)
Saskatoon (2-and-2)
Aguasabon (1-3-and-1)
Nelson House (0-4-and-1)
